While I do have 8 different distro's on my machine, my main OS lately has been PCLinuxOS although a printer issue may find me switching back to Mepis.
I like Vector Linux too.
Tiny Core is supposed to be super fast on boot up, but by the time you set it up the way you like it, it's advantage is greatly reduced.
I really wanted to like Sabayon 5, but maybe it's because it's based on Gentoo, but I experienced one to many problems to make it ready for prime time (boy does that distro make you appreciate Synaptic)!
Didn't really care for Fedora or OpenSUSE.
I also have Windows XP for those rare moments when you just gotta use it (some websites will only work with IE).

Re: Hello
Happy to see the new forum get started. My username on the old Freespire forum was zekelinux2. At the present I am using Linux mint which is ok. I finally gave up on the spires, cut my losses and moved on. Thanks for keeping the dream alive!

Re: Hello
Hi , people.
Just a wee flash back. I just found this in the bottom of my drawer. I think it is the first Linux I ever installed.
Says on the disk - - LindowsOS 0.91 Sneak Preview 2 .

Re: Hello
Welcome all !
At the moment I don't have much time to work on these forums (I hope I have some more time this weekend) but until then maybe a few things could be discussed.
1. Forum software : There is an option between phpBB3, phpBB2, PunBB and Invasion. At the moment we are running phpBB3 but maybe the majority likes on of the others ? It should be painless to switch software (or so they say).
2. What sections should we create here : Since this is not going to be a "carbon-copy" of the Spire forums it might be a good idea to discuss what sections people think they need.

Hi wizzard------------
this layout looks fine with me
well a "Distro" section would be good where each one gets it own subsection. Were you wanting this board to be more technical or more nostalgic?

An Insiders forum would be cool...

Yup a Distro's section would be nice.
An Off Topic section would be nice too.

I guess the previous question regarding proving assistance or just a place to socialize, would be helpful in designing the layout..

I have no problem allowing everyone to have access to the "Insider" forums, I just think that it would be a cool title for one of the forums... We all would know who was an Insider from the past, but that doesn't mean that we would exclude anyone from the present...

Re: Hello
Yea that would be kewl. My recommendation would be to make it not visible for guests (those not logged-on). Maybe even an Insiders group w/ a badge/title...hqlinux wrote:I have no problem allowing everyone to have access to the "Insider" forums, I just think that it would be a cool title for one of the forums... The Insiders were a group of people who helped promote Lindows/*spires in a variety of ways including testing, giving our thoughts, comments and suggestions, etc., etc., etc. We paid Lindows for the pleasure of joining this group. I paid $100.00 to join in 2002, and then bought two lifetime memberships to help Lindows in their fight against Microsoft. So did several others...
It was a special group of folks in a myriad of ways... lots and lots of friendships all over the world were made during those days... I miss it...

Re: Hello
Last week when I was looking for my first distro's CD's I can across a whole bunch of LindowsOS/Linspire/Freespire CD's (man I forgot I had so many) I didn't count then but it was a lot.
Anyway, I was pretty late to the party, so my first Lindows was 2.x but then again my first distro was Debian 2.0 which supersedes Lindows/Linspire with a few years
Oh, and for the people who saw my "desktop" from 2.0 (hamm) the reason why I was unable to get X working seems to be a bug, the file xinitrc doesn't exist so there is no X configuration done.
In time I might try the latest hamm release (should still be on one of the Debian servers).
